We are so delighted to have crested $2,000 as of 6-21-2013! We are 4/5 of the way to funding our first comic of Volume 3. Below is one very talented artist and teacher and caring person–Chelsea Manifold. She works at P.S. 145 in New York City as an art teacher. Many of the students in her classrooms have suffered from neglect and abuse. Many are homeless.
In the last week of the school year, Chelsea sent us the following letter:
I can’t thank you enough for the gift you gave to me and my students. I’ve been sharing Wireman with a class of behaviorally and emotionally disturbed youth and I can’t tell you how amazing the reaction has been! Engagement and excitement about reading! Some of the most challenged readers have been going through the books two or three in a day! I have a few students who have such behavioral issues that they disrupt the whole class and in the past have had to be removed from the class by security, I’ve given them the Wireman books and let them sit quietly in the corner of the room to read. They stayed attentive and engaged and when they were done reading spent the remainder of the class drawing from the instructional page on the back. The response has been amazing! Now their classmates have started coming to me and asking if they can read Wireman. The only sad thing is when they reach the last book and I have to tell them that the 3rd volume is not printed yet. I’ve been encouraging them to write you letters and I’ll try following up with that in this last week of school.
In short,
Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!
Chelsea Manifold, Studio-in-a-School Art Teacher, PS 145, New York City
