As a result of exceeding $1,000 worth of donations for our Indiegogo Campaign I met with Wireman artist, Cang Du this morning. It’s been more than five years since we sat down at the drawing board. Both Cang and I are excited to be working on Volume 3 together. Having gathered plot suggestions from kids in Chicago, Detroit, Austin and New York City, I am re-writing the first issue to work on the plot elements our readers loved the most. It’s very exciting. Both Cang and I have grown as artists in the last five years. Here Cang shows some action drawings he’s been practicing in his sketchbook.
It makes me want to incorporate more par cours elements into my stories. Here’s Cang with the illustrations he drew for Volume 2.
At the prospect of returning to work for Wireman, Cang made a test page for the first issue of Volume 3. It’s fantastic!
We reminisced about our ‘old gang’ of artists. Molly Corriveau, who’s overseen the drawings from the beginning, will still be consulting with us, volunteering her time. Our other talented artists are busy with different projects, though they’re also lending us support from the sidelines! And your donations of more than $1,500 (as of 6/18) = 12 pages of artwork. We’ve almost raised enough for issue 1. I can’t thank you enough on behalf of the kids for whom Wireman has become a springboard to literacy. We’re excited to share the process with you!
Here we are in 2007–From Left to Right: Cang Du, Molly, Jenn Roon, Salim Muhamad, Sue, Brian Cook and Matt Geerling.
