On April 29th, 2013, Wireman advocates will be setting off from Grand Rapids, Michigan to New York City. The goal along the way is to stop and speak to kids about their experience with the Wireman Comic Series.  You see, Sue and others think Wireman is an incredible literacy tool for at-risk readers. Kids LOVE Wireman.  Kids of all ages, but particularly kids 10-17. But even though Sue has found publishing homes for more than a dozen books, she hasn’t yet found the right home for Wireman.

If you love at-risk readers, help us promote Wireman by using her social media channels.  ‘Like’ Sue Stauffacher books on Facebook and share what we’re doing with others who care about illiteracy.

On April 16th, we  traveled to Chicago to interview the students at JW Cook Elementary.  On the 29th, we’ll go to Detroit, MI, Youngstown, OH, Harrisburg, PA, and two schools in New York City, stopping to visit Wireman readers and film interviews that will be posted on the Wireman website and the Sue Stauffacher Books Facebook page. All this is in preparation for an interview in New York with New York Public Librarian and blogger, Betsy Bird.

Sue and her team are hoping the kids can convince a publisher to step forward.  Wireman is so unique.  It was written with dozens of story consultants, our most left-behind kids.  Some were incarcerated; others were reading three or four grade levels below their age.  What Sue did was use talented artists and her skills as a writer to craft a story–in consultation with the kids–that really struck home.  A story that makes kids want to read more.  And in reading more, their skills naturally improve.
